LP Opasi was a highly revered senior monk and the founder of Bangmod Hermitage, a place of solitude dedicated to spiritual cultivation and ascetic practice. He was widely respected for his deep meditative practice and mastery of fire wiccha (magical fire rituals), with countless miraculous stories and legends talked about him to this day.
Born in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Luang Por Opasi began his spiritual journey at Wat Tai, where he studied ancient scriptures. He was later ordained at Wat Pho, where he pursued Pali studies with exceptional diligence and intelligence, earning the admiration of his teachers. Impressed by his abilities, the abbot of the Pali school pledged to send him to further his studies in Bangkok upon completion.
One of Luang Por Opasi’s most significant teachers was the legendary LP Kob, a renowned master of fire wiccha. After encountering LP Kob, Luang Por secluded himself in deep meditation, following a strict daily routine: collecting alms and having only a single morning meal. In the afternoons, he would open his hut and practice fire rituals, burning various items to harness the power of fire wiccha.
After returning to Wat Bowonniwet, his growing number of followers made it difficult for him to maintain a quiet monastic life. Seeking solitude, he left the temple and embarked on a pilgrimage, eventually settling in the Bang Mot area on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River—then known for its famous orange orchards.
Impressed by his discipline and spiritual conduct, the local villagers frequently came to pay homage. A wealthy landowner later donated land to Luang Por, allowing him to establish Bangmod Hermitage in BE2485. Over time, the hermitage grew in prominence and was eventually elevated to the status of Wat LP Opasi.
LP Opasi became widely known for his compassionate assistance to people from all walks of life, including farmers, orchard owners, businesspeople, and even high-ranking officials. One of the most well-known aspects of his practice was his fire rituals. Devotees believed that by offering kerosene—often in large quantities—the resulting flame would help reduce the defilements in their hearts.
There are many stories of people who experienced prosperity and business success after making offerings to LP Opasi, especially when their items were burned in his sacred fire. Remarkably, some devotees claimed that valuable items they had offered to LP Opasi and seen burned miraculously reappeared in their homes, often with increased fortune or blessings.
Another frequently told legend involves the phenomenon of bilocation—LP Opasi being seen in multiple provinces at the same time, even though travel between those places would normally take days. Such stories of his miraculous abilities have become part of his lasting spiritual legacy.
All amulet coins bearing the image of LP Opasi are considered highly sacred and spiritually potent. These amulets are believed to bring great success, prosperity, and protection. They are particularly popular among the Thai-Chinese community for their reputed power in enhancing business luck and offering invulnerability.
To this day, LP Opasi remains a figure of deep respect and enduring faith. His teachings, miracles, and sacred objects continue to inspire countless devotees who come to honor his legacy at Wat Luang Por Opasi.
